Unable to save new IP addresses

Post by B-Drag » Sat Apr 19, 2014 1:13 pm

Hi,

I'm having trouble saving the new servers into my profile.ini.
I've never experienced this problem before, and for some reason, I can't get it to save it.

At first, I just thought I'd add the following lines in each profile.ini I had =
serverFavorites=(IP="31.186.251.85",Port="7777")
serverFavorites=(IP="31.186.251.85",Port="8077")
After that, I booted T:rV, but could not find the servers I just put in. So I closed T:rV again and went to check if the .ini's were still correct. They weren't. In each and every single one of them, the lines above were missing. Then HighDive told me to delete all my profile.ini's, but keep my Default.ini and edit the lines into that one; that way, any new profile I'd make would automatically have those servers as well.
So I deleted my profile.ini's and put in the IP-addresses in the default.ini.
I booted T:rV again, made a new profile, and closed T:rV after making sure the profile was saved. I went back to the profile.ini, but again, the lines were missing...

Is there any other possible solution to this(using Fireant's launcher)?

Edit 1 = They are not Read-only, I already checked that :)

Well first of all, check if the .ini files arent read only (right click on file->properties->read only checkbox).

Oops, forgot to mention that; they are not read-only.

Do the profile files "generally" work? If you change your name in profile.ini file will it show ingame? Also, i know its trivial but when you close the file and reopen it, do you see the changes you made - did they save at all?

Changes save after I close them, but they reset after I boot the game.
They also save changes to the name and loadout settings...

You mean that changes to your name from .ini file work?
Also you could try restarting if you havent already. Another thing that comes to my mind is checking if creating and deleting profiles from game menu works properly. You also could try moving game to your C: drive (if it isnt there already) (there has been some problems with game on other drive in the past).

From in-game, not from the ini itself.

Yeah, I've tried restarting my laptop; no difference.

Moving my game to the C: directory? I'll try that.

C: drive, directory wont make any difference im afraid...
Maybe some antivirus issues than? Also, if your profile files gets overridden by some default profile, you could try searching for that specific profile (using windows search or something). Also search if you dont have profile files elsewhere in your tribes..maybe like in content\system?

I've tried to search for "hidden" default.ini's, but there don't seem to be any.
Idk what's wrong, but it just doesn't seem to work...

Copy whats inside your profile file, delete it, create new one, paste, save, rename.

Doesn't work, Ness...

Edit 1= @Fireant, I am, however, able to join through console, so at least that's something...

Program/Bin/User.ini, check if its read-only.

Hm, have you tried changing nick for example? Does T:V rewrite entire profile file or just remove the server lines?

I used to have this same exact issue actually. It seemed to fix itself after I used a .reg fix (to fill in missing details in the registry for T:V) and running it as administrator...
Then again I had permissions issues with Tribes... what I did was right click your whole Tribes Vengeance folder in VUGames, go to permissions, and edit it to Allow Full Access to my account, instead of just administrators. (Some weird Windows 7 protection thing.)
