Tribes Vengeance 2014 Spring Tournament

Hello guys,

Our numbers have been growing for quite a while now and now, more and more votes are going up to get something challanging going, because regular pubs get boring after a while. I completely agree with you guys and therefore I would like to try my shot at organising a small, weekly tournament, which should fill the gab until the real league is ready to begin. Meanwhile, it should give clans the opportunity to get in touch with eachother again and have some clan trainings, etc going on. That, of course, with the ultimate goal of having the clans prepared for the real deal: the league.

THE IDEA

The idea would be to have a weekly tournament, to kickstart clan activity, player communication and provide something challenging meanwhile. This weekly tournament will always take play on sunday, starting at approximately 4pm CET and finishing approximately 4 hours later. A to-the-point schedule will be posted when the weekend draws near, when we got an overview of how many teams are participating.

This tournament will feature a simple ladder structure. The winning team advances, the losing team drops. Eventually the two teams who won all matches, will battle for ultimate victory. This obviously means that you might have to play multiple times over the course of the approximately 4 hours the tournament takes place. An example of this ladder structure can be the following, obviously I will have to create something that fits our tournament... But this, so you get an idea:
Image

In my opinion, the following rules would apply, but I leave these subject to change if there is a certain need for it:

* Teams will be formed of maximum 6 players. These must include a mixed skill level and must have a minimum of 2 beginners (or rather: 2 not top-edge players). This to increase the fun to be had and to create unpredictable results.
* Battles will be fought over a maximum of 3 maps, whereas the first team to get 2 wins, wins the battle.
* Maps will last 10 minutes maximum and will be picked before randomly, from a selected group of maps (yet to be announced), consisting out of BEML, VM and x2 maps.
* If anyone is caught playing for multiple teams, those teams will be disqualified from the tournament. By this rule, it is not the meaning people go be a substitute of a certain team can't field enough players. If that team fails to do so it's too bad for that team and they will get another chance the week after.
* The winner gets nothing but the honour of winning the tournament.
* It is your team's own responsibility to make sure you are capable of summoning at least 4 players to the tournament server when the time is there. Failing to do so, will cause your team to be disqualified, so pick active players and choose a team captain who will make sure everyone gets informed!
* Needless to say, cheating of any kind will result in being disqualified from the tournament, banned from the future league and banned from all tribesrevengeance.com servers.
* Each map's result must be screenshot. Scores without such proof won't be accepted and will cause the match to be invalid.
* To lead this league in proper ways, admins will be appointed. If one of these admins decide on something, that decision is final and not to be discussed.
* Battles can not be rescheduled. The time of play will be announced approximately 4 days ahead of the match day and thereby, you are expected to be able to field enough players.
* Tactics must be made beforehand! You know beforehand against whom you are going to play and you are only in teams of 4 to 6 players. To reduce the time this tournament will take, you must decide tactics beforehand. There will be no time to discuss positions for half an hour each map, as there will be a 5 minute margin on each map. This includes map switching, joining the server, etc. Failing to finish the matches within approximately 45 minutes, will cause the match to be a loss.
* Refrain from using smurf nicknames. Pretty much everyone is rusty and will most likely not play like they used to, so there is no shame in showing who you are. This will also make checking rule number 1 easier for the present league admin.
* It is allowed to spectate a match, but you will have to keep quiet at all times! Failing to stay quiet will get you removed from the server immediatly.

By submitting you clan or group for this tournament, you agree to have read and understood all of the above rules and guidelines. You also understand these may be updated at any time, but that major updates must be announced clearly trough either this forum or the facebook group.

Any suggestions and such, may always be posted here, in this topic or forum.~

CLAN/GROUP PRACTICES AND SERVER RENTAL

As said in the introduction, the main goal of this tournament (besides having fun of course), is to sparkle the competitive side of this game once more and to revive clan/group activity. Clans/groups will need to get decent means to be able to contact each other and such, but they will also need a place to practice certain tactics. This place can be provided by the tribesrevengeance.com servers. It is the idea, that the team's (appointed) captain contacts me and suggests approximately 2 to 3 dates, when he would like to 'rent' one of the two servers for his team. If that moment isn't yet picked by another team, his/her team can have the server for up to 2 hours, after which the password will be removed.

I guess I got the ground rules covered, this post is yet to be updated soon, but I wanted to announce this today, so you all got a week to prepare yourselves!

Happy tribing and see you next Sunday!

As I said, the picture is only an example of the ladder structure I have in mind. I will have to create one, once I know how many teams signed up.

I have to say that i dont think that tree type ladders will work, after all we will be lucky to have 4 teams in the tournament. Standard points system would work mutch better..

Mr. Ant is right. I made a tournament at league republic that is a 5team group stage followed by semis and a final. ai and UIS were in for that ..starting to take off. Nice time for this Killer. >_>

need more smilies here! :)

Well, we will never know if we don't try it out first. Using this type of ladder, will make it possible to easily start from equal base again every week until we start the league. Even if we get just 4 teams, it will mean 3 matches and thus around 150 minutes of competitive play on sunday. Point is, that clans are too thin at this point to start clan warfare, thats why I thought of this temporary solution.

Obviously a point system will be used in the future league. But adding points here, would make things just more difficult without any benefit.

Without seeing any league or w/e, or clans, new people won't come. U expect random new players to read all yer essays and wait in hope.
It would be far better to have them see a league and clans playing. We have 5 teams that have players. ai the least, with 7, afaik. A 4vs4 Tourney
with 10/15/20 minutes maps, best 2 of 3. Group stage of 5 teams. Knock out stage of 4 teams(semi-final, final). Could be 2 weekends/sundays.

I think these would show table/standings, results, upcoming fixtures on tribesrevengeance.com ; with no work?

That nice little table :) I've even made it orange.

I do see a few problems here and there :
This obviously means that you might have to play multiple times over the course of the approximately 4 hours the tournament takes place.
- i don't really think many people will find the time on Sunday to sit 4h and play TV , me as example as my time is random. Mayble we split it into 2? Like Group Stages on Saturday , Semi and Final on Sunday?
There will be no time to discuss positions for half an hour each map, as there will be a 5 minute margin on each map. This includes map switching, joining the server, etc. Failing to finish the matches within approximately 45 minutes, will cause the match to be a loss.
- This point needs further explainaton. Do you mean that the whole match has to be done in 45min or one map? And which team gets diqualfied if , as example , one team take too much time on one map , the second team on second map and this than leads to the match being heldt more then 45min?

And also to yid :
We have 5 teams that have players. ai the least, with 7
Not really true , cS has currently 6 players , where 1 pretty much in-active , so let's say 5,5 players.

Thanks for your input, Oui.

While other matches are going on, no one is forcing you or anyone else to stay around of course. The idea would be that once I got an overview of the amount of participating teams, that I will make a schedule that fits the situation. So you know beforehand at what times you might have to play. But yes, it's a good point: once we grow larger, the time it will take to finish this will increase (greatly) and then I will fall back to your suggestion and split it into 2 days. But currently, we may be happy if we can get 2h of comp play (margins included).

About the 45 minutes. It is the meaning that an "entire battle" is done within 45 minutes. This is perfectly possible as each map will take maximum 10 minutes and have approximately 5 minutes between. This does, however, mean that you will need to communicate beforehand about tactics, positions, etc. A "tournament admin" will spectate the match and decide whether or not a penalty has to be given out.

Remember though, most of these rules serve as basic guidelines. The main point of this tournament is to have fun and to bring new life into player/team communication, because this ladder structure will force clans or groups to communicate outside the game, by using a forum or xFire, for example.

Up In Smoke, for now we have 9 members in the clan: Asema, Disguise (capt), Fireant, Hussle (capt). Imbalanced, Kampfwolf, Odin, Pak, Panacea and Random.

Although I am not sure which of the members can and will be active during league this is our team and speaking for myself, hopefully for my clannies to, I hope we can join in when the league starts ;)
