Website art?

Post by HighDive » Sat Oct 11, 2014 1:44 pm

Hey guys,

Time to get things moving a bit. The front page of the new website is in need of two 350x200 images.

The idea is to have images like on the following page. It should be some picture of Tribes Vengeance, preferable with some player model thing in there, that catches attention. Meanwhile it must display something like "Get started playing Tribes Vengeance" in the first and "Browse our free tutorials and downloads"in the other one.

Inspiration: http://www.divisionagency.com/archive/tribes/official/

Anyone up for the task please?

HighDive

EDIT: Preview of the front page (the boxes I am talking about are the two on the left)

Hello,

just reporting in that I am currently working on this and tommorow I will post the results. I have been discussing it from the beggining with HighDive and hopefully it will be usuable.

The text gave me some problems but I finally got an idea of what should look good in this scenario. I am tired and I will finish it later.

But I would appreciate if anyone can make a raw screenshot from a grassy map, can be anything really. That would help me alot.

Keep tribaling,

Thanks for the link, I had a lot to choose from :)

So, it is done, I am finally happy with it and it matches all the requirements and is close to the inspiration.

The player models contrast with the text and the background. If the text catches attention - that is debatable. Hopefully it will.

Allrighty, seems I have finally found Fireant's magical file where he edited the homepage with. Give me few to get those pictures in. :)

HighDive

EDIT: Added in the pictures. Please send them as .jpg next time, as that saves me the time converting them, so I can fully focus on adding them.

EDIT2: I'd like to suggest changing the text "Get started with Tribes Vengeance" to "Get started playing Tribes Vengeance"! :)

Also to live a bit bit bigger space between the "d" of "downloads" (bottom picture) and the model, and the "t" of "Tribes Vengeance" (top picture).

So here it is, finally, with a text that should hopefully work.

http://i.imgur.com/4DJnGVv.jpg "get started playing tribes vengeance"

http://i.imgur.com/NgraExa.jpg "browse our free downloads for tribes vengeance"

http://i.imgur.com/3MxYrPq.jpg "browse our free tutorials for tribes vengeance"

I had to do the longer ones you suggested since I wanted it all to look same (=> 3 lines of text)

Also just tell me if you want the text box end behind the player model and not continue to the far left.

I hope I didnt make any mistakes,

Fifato

I have updated the pictures on the front page and it is really starting to look like something! :D

Awesome!

Next question: could you make a Tribes Vengeance download button which I can use on pages like the following? :)

Keep up the good work man! :D

Very nice!
It seems that homepage is just a few steps away from being done, right?
Just add some darker background, some text/colors and it is ready to go. Something like this http://i.imgur.com/4JN23p1.jpg.
Some polishing issues:
  • Sidebar images could use rounded corners to fit with other images on the page (this can be done via css, no art changes required).
Navbar has some weird artefact between buttons (on top of them). There seems to be one pixel wide blue line.

Yeah! Just a matter of thinking of a good filling for that bigger box and the homepage is close to being finished! :D Love the suggestion, Fireant. I am hoping Indiana, a NA guy, can help us solving the little - perhaps more complex (or not) - issues as he is web developer.

I was sortof thinking the following should be in the big box:

- As little text as possible, but text that describes the website & turns people on to start playing T:V
- A video showing what T:V is about
- A donation "bar"/"image", encouraging people to donate for the cause. Optional and not required at start!
- .. stuff like this

I will try make some progress tonight!

I would not bother with describing the website, it is quite obvious what you can do with it (look at the navbar). More important would be quickly describing the core game (Tribes is a multiplayer ctf game with jetpacks, skis and grapling hooks. Featuring unique and fun weapons, vehicles and deployables).
Video is nice, but something with less effects and clutter than frag movies have.
Sticking donation into navbar seems like a better idea, just make it regular button like the rest of them. First time visitors are not gonna donate and returning visitors wont read landing page anyways.

the transparency is about 5px top and bottom, it should work.

EDIT: Now... after an hour... I noticed I fucked up the corners... srsly?

Will fix soon.
